Monmouth vs. Iona has been a strong under-the-radar rivalry for the last year in the MAAC. Last season, Monmouth coach King Rice and Iona coach Tim Cluess exchanged words in the conference tournament in the middle of the game after a hard foul. Before their tilt Friday, Cluess called out Monmouth's energetic bench, saying that he "didn't know if they were on the team or wearing uniforms as cheerleaders."
So, yeah, we shouldn't be surprised that a postgame kerfuffle broke out after Monmouth's 110-102 win over the Gaels on Friday, snapping Iona's 26-game home win streak.
