The United States was eliminated from the Gold Cup on Wednesday night after a stunning upset by Jamaica. The loss means the Americans will face off against the tournament’s winner in October for an opportunity to claim Concacaf’s spot at the 2017 Confederations Cup.
From the opening whistle, Jamaica looked lively and took the lead in the 31st minute on a header from the Vancouver Whitecaps forward Darren Mattocks and then added to the lead in the 36th minute on a terrific free kick from the Houston Dynamo midfielder Giles Barnes.
The United States got a goal from Michael Bradley in the 48th minute but could not tie it.
