Pittsburgh running back James Conner, the ACC Offensive Player of the Year in 2014, will have surgery on a torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee that will end his season after less than one game.
Conner was injured in the second quarter of the Panthers’ 45-37 win Saturday against Youngstown State.
“Even with all of his success last year, James attacked his preparation for this season like he was fighting to earn a starting spot,” Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said. “He is a tremendous competitor and teammate. After he was injured on Saturday, James was constantly in the ear of his teammates, encouraging them and coaching them on the sideline.
