PITTSBURGH — Before the first pitch here on Saturday afternoon, the pressing question was whether the Mets would provide Matt Harvey the runs to support his recent dominant form. The answer quickly became inconsequential as Harvey slogged through one of the worst starts of his short career, giving up more runs than he had in his previous five starts combined.
Harvey entered his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 16-inning scoreless streak, but that ended in the first inning with one thunderous stroke from Andrew McCutchen, who hit one of the two home runs Harvey allowed in the game.
