Pirates 4, Mets 1: Noah Syndergaard Takes a Loss, but He May Get More Chances

PITTSBURGH — There were more exciting flashes of promise, and a few more raw moments, for the right-hander Noah Syndergaard here on Friday night. His three-start stay in the major leagues has whetted the appetites of the Mets and their fans for an extended look at his stuff, and Manager Terry Collins hinted on Friday that he would get his chance.

Syndergaard, a sturdy 22-year-old, provided six mostly solid innings — giving up four runs, allowing seven hits and notching five strikeouts — in front of a crowd of 33,337 at PNC Park, where the Mets lost, 4-1, to the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates.
