Phillies 11, Yankees 8: Michael Pineda Battered in His Shortest Outing of Season

Michael Pineda pitched brilliantly in his last start, throwing six hitless innings on the way to his eighth win of the season. Monday’s matchup provided him a prime opportunity to continue the run.

He would face a team that arrived at Yankee Stadium with the lowest run total in the major leagues and, over the last week, had lost games in which it allowed 19, 12 and 10 runs.

Instead of turning in another dominating performance, though, Pineda imploded, coughing up eight earned runs and 11 hits — both career highs — in his shortest outing of the season as the Philadelphia Phillies walloped the Yankees, 11-8.
