Pete Carroll: Seahawks reached out to Cam Newton with Russell Wilson sidelined

With Russell Wilson sidelined with a finger injury, the Seattle Seahawks have reached out to Cam Newton.

Head coach Pete Carroll made the revelation in an interview with 710 ESPN's Mike Salk on Monday.

"Just so you know, we have talked to him," Carroll said. "We're talking to everybody that could help us."

Carroll didn't provide any details of the talks or how seriously Seattle's considering making an offer to Newton, if at all.

Newton, 32, remains a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots prior to Week 1.
