After Canelo Alvarez knocked out Amir Khan in May to retain his WBC and Ring middleweight titles, he brought in WBA (super), IBF, WBC and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin into the ring. In his post-fight interview, Alvarez said he would fight Golovkin next.
The boxing world got excited. A fight between its two biggest stars was finally going to happen. But, as what has been the norm in boxing lately, Alvarez reneged. He dropped the title and said he had an agreement to fight "GGG" next September and will be fighting junior middleweight champion Liam Smith on Sept.
