On Baseball: The Pirates’ Winning Path Is Blocked by a Familiar Foe

ST. LOUIS — Francisco Cervelli was raised by the Yankees, who traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates last fall after parts of seven seasons in the majors. Cervelli reported to his new team in spring training, and it was as if nothing had changed.

“They’d been to the playoffs two years in a row, and they were kind of angry about it, because they wanted to go the World Series,” Cervelli said at Busch Stadium on Saturday before a game with the St. Louis Cardinals.
