Two members of the fraternity are gone now, two fewer major league managers who also managed in the minors.
On Monday, two weeks after the Milwaukee Brewers fired Ron Roenicke, the Miami Marlins fired Mike Redmond. Both teams chose replacements with no managing experience.
Craig Counsell, a starting second baseman for two World Series champions, now manages the Brewers. Dan Jennings, who had been the Marlins’ general manager, made the unusual switch Monday to guide the team from the dugout. Ten other current managers had no managing experience when they were hired.
“Those guys come with good credentials,” the Mets’ Terry Collins said.
