Olympian Tyson Gay pleads for end to gun violence at teen daughter’s vigil

U.S. Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay spoke Monday night in Lexington, Ky., at a vigil for his slain daughter, pleading with those in attendance to “stop the nonsense and violence,” the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

Trinity Gay, 15, was shot to death early Sunday, apparently caught in a crossfire between two vehicles.

“As parents we do our best to raise our child the best we can. And sometimes things just happen; it’s out of our control. We only can look up and ask God why. Sometimes we don't get an answer,” Gay said, then perhaps aiming his remarks to Trinity's classmates at the gathering at Lafayette High School, continued, “I just want people to be safe and understand that we all have a life, and we all have dreams and when your fellow peer has a dream, it’s our job as brothers and sisters to come together and protect each other.
