Cheer up Northwestern hoops fans. Your on-campus arena is getting a big facelift, which could potentially go a long way toward helping the Wildcats make their first-ever NCAA tournament.
This week, school officials announced a $110 million renovation of Welsh-Ryan Arena, which opened on campus in 1952 at a cost of $1.25 million. It's the second-oldest arena in the Big Ten behind Minnesota's Williams Arena.

Chris Collins took over as Northwestern's coach in 2013 and among the first things he pushed for to upgrade the program was improving the team's aging facility to help the Cats compete for recruits.
