Keith Kinkaid could not remember the last time he shut out an opponent at any level of hockey.
“It’s been a long time coming,” Kinkaid said after he made 28 saves for his first N.H.L. shutout in leading the Devils to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday in Newark.
David Schlemko scored the lone goal, and the Devils won their third straight.
The Devils leapfrogged the idle Islanders for third place in the Metropolitan Division.
“You can’t say it’s a fluke at this point in the season,” forward Lee Stempniak said.
