NFL quarterback play falling victim to arrested development

Three seasons ago, one of the NFL's legendary talent evaluators pushed back against the conventional wisdom that quarterbacking wasn't what it used to be.

"The quarterback situation today in the NFL is healthier than it’s ever been in history," Gil Brandt said a month before the 2014 draft.

Evidence, like the long string of recent draft busts, seems to support the conventional wisdom. Yet, in terms of talent, Brandt is not wrong. The development, though, is lacking in enough cases to not only create chaos on numerous teams, but drag down the quality of play across the board.
