The NCAA wants to be prepared if the college basketball season can’t start as planned in November. The organization has already considered possible alternatives if that’s the case.
In a statement Monday, NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt said there are contingency plans in place if the season can’t begin Nov. 10. The NCAA plans to meet to discuss those alternatives, and will provide an update in mid-September if the season will be delayed.
In the coming weeks, the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Oversight Committees will take the lead with me in a collaborative process of finalizing any recommendations for consideration by the NCAA Division I Council for the start of the college basketball season.
