MINNEAPOLIS — Virginia, taking advantage of a last-second call that was missed and an even later one that was made stunned Auburn, 63-62, at the Final Four on Saturday to advance to its first national championship game.
The game’s final seconds will be among the most talked-about in the tournament’s history, after the Tigers’ Samir Doughty was whistled for a foul on a missed 3-pointer by Virginia’s Kyle Guy in the final second. With Auburn Coach Bruce Pearl fuming, Guy coolly made three free throws to lift the Cavaliers, who had blown a 10-point lead over the final five minutes, into the final.
