N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory claims he had deal with NBA to keep All-Star Game in Charlotte

It's been a week since the NBA pulled its All-Star Game out of Charlotte, but North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory says he tried to work out a deal with the league to keep the game in the state's largest city.

McCrory, in an interview with the Charlotte Observer, said he had a “total verbal agreement” that fell through with the NBA to appease the league's issues with HB2. An unnamed source close to the situation told the Observer it would be an overstatement to say there was ever an actual agreement.

The proposed deal would have included reinstating residents' ability to sue for discrimination in state court, developing a “blue-ribbon task force” to study discrimination across the state and aligning state and federal nondiscrimination statutory language.
