Drivers, start your slipping. NASCAR on Thursday announced it will mandate a lower downforce for Aug. 28's race at Michigan.

A favorite testbed, the track again will see cars running with less aerodynamic ability to stick to the track. And that's just what drivers want.

June 12's race and July 9's race at Kentucky were run under rules that decreased the size of splitters, spoilers and rear deck fins. The objective of the changes is to create more passing as cars slow entering corners. More passing, NASCAR believes, will create more exciting races.

Michigan and Kentucky races last year used aerodynamic rules that were adopted for 2016.
