NASCAR at Michigan: Five things to know before Sprint Cup Chase begins

Three races remain before the start of NASCAR's version of the playoffs, and some of the sport's stars are on the outside of the Chase for the Sprint Cup grid looking in.

After a fifth-place finish at Bristol, surprise Chase contender Chris Buescher is in position to take a spot away from Kyle Larson. Tony Stewart also is in position to bump a driver out of the Chase; entering this weekend, that would be Trevor Bayne.

Kasey Kahne, AJ Allmendinger and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. are also on the Chase bubble heading into Sunday's Pure Michigan 400. If there is another surprise winner in the remaining races — at Michigan, Darlington and Richmond — Ryan Newman could be knocked out of the 16-driver Chase field.
