Mike Trout’s Back-to-Back All-Star M.V.P. Awards Is a Baseball First

Mike Trout is making the All-Star Game look easy.

He became the first hitter to start the game with a homer since Joe Morgan in Yankee Stadium in 1977. Trout hit the shot off no less than Zack Greinke, who has a streak of 35 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The home run Tuesday night in Cincinnati also completed a career All-Star cycle for Trout. His record in his first at-bat in each of his four All-Star Games reads: single, double, triple, home run.

But Trout’s most notable achievement is that he is the first player to win back-to-back All-Star Most Valuable Player Awards.
