The New York Mets had MLB's best record after a full-steam-ahead offseason. Now they have MLB's first no-hitter.
Five Mets pitchers — Tylor Megill, Drew Smith, Joely Rodríguez, Seth Lugo and Edwin Díaz — combined to throw nine no-hit innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 3-0 win, the 17th combined no-hitter in MLB history.
It is the second no-hitter in Mets history, joining Johan Santana's 134-pitch effort in 2012. All together, the team struck out 12 while walking six and threw 159 total pitches.
The five pitchers gave a joint news conference with Mets manager Buck Showalter after the game, which Showalter likened to a "cheap Christmas card.
