Mets’ Pete Alonso, Astros’ Yordan Alvarez Take Home Rookie of the Year Honors

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso broke the record for home runs by a rookie, hitting 53 this season. So to no one's surprise, on Monday he took home the Baseball Writers’ Association of America’s National League Rookie of the Year Award, receiving 29 of 30 first-place votes.

Alonso led the MLB in home runs, finished fourth overall with 120 RBIs and was tied for third with 85 extra-base hits. He also broke the Mets’ single-season home run record.

While Alonso received all but one first-place vote, the Astros’ Yordan Alvarez took home the American League Rookie of the Year award unanimously.
