PHILADELPHIA — The bats stirred to life for the Mets at a sun-doused Citizens Bank Park on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series, which the Mets won, 7-4, over the Philadelphia Phillies.
A pinch-hit two-run double by Johnny Monell gave the Mets some breathing room in the eighth inning, after the bullpen nearly blew another victory for Bartolo Colon, who improved to 6-1 and became the first Mets pitcher to throw six consecutive starts without issuing a walk.
Colon’s streak of 40 1/3 innings of walkless pitching — encompassing 162 batters — is the second-longest stretch in team history.
