During fourth inning, as the Mets were blitzing the Miami Marlins starter Tom Koehler while sending 12 batters to the plate, twice they held runners at third base on singles to right field. The hits were not particularly deep, but the Mets seemed to be saying, Why rush? The next batter would probably score them anyway.
This is the new normal for the Mets, as strange as it may sound. They have a competent, unselfish offense that is capable of scoring seven runs in an inning. And they have ridden that offense to eight consecutive wins, including a four-game sweep of the Marlins, which ended Sunday with a 7-6 victory at Citi Field.
