MIAMI — Bartolo Colon sat on the bench in the Mets dugout and smiled as his teammates celebrated and showered Wilmer Flores with pats on the helmet. Colon looked like a proud father.
He also looked like a pitcher whose offense had provided four runs before he had thrown his first pitch of the game. The Mets, powered by four first-inning runs and Colon’s steady pitching, beat the Marlins, 7-0, on Saturday night at Marlins Park to maintain their five-game lead over the Washington Nationals in the National League East.
But the win, of course, was secondary to the saga surrounding starter Matt Harvey’s future this season.
