ATLANTA — Around the time the Mets’ game against the Braves was supposed to begin on Thursday night, thunder clapped from above, and a heavy rain fell. After a while, the outfield looked like a swamp. Water poured down the Mets’ dugout steps like a fountain, creating a small moat that kept the players from peeking outside.
Mets Manager Terry Collins paced the field, inspecting its integrity. With the Mets leading the National League East, he had much to lose if poor conditions contributed to an injury to one of his players.
The storm raged on and delayed the start of the game by 2 hours 20 minutes.
