Mets 4, Marlins 3: Yoenis Cespedes Uses Bat, and Tape, to Aid Another Win

Before batting practice Monday, Juan Uribe asked Yoenis Cespedes to tape the handles of his bats, perhaps hoping Cespedes would send some positive energy his way.

Whatever the source, Uribe summoned enough power to hit a two-out double in the sixth inning that set up a tying two-run homer by Travis d’Arnaud and helped the Mets overcome a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Miami Marlins, 4-3.

When Uribe approached Cespedes, Cespedes feigned annoyance and slapped Uribe on the head. But Cespedes, the slugging outfielder who on Monday was named the National League’s player of the week, complied, meticulously wrapping orange tape around the black handles of Uribe’s bats while sitting at his locker.
