After a game in which they had scored the most runs, tallied the most hits and presumably raised the most eyebrows in Citi Field’s seven-year history, the Mets were expecting Sunday to be a little less pleasant.
In this case, the opposing pitcher, Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers, represented the hammering hangover after a night of revelry. His E.R.A. was better than any pitcher’s this late in the season since the mound was lowered. And it was only getting better: Greinke, a wispy right-hander, had not allowed an earned run in 432/3 innings, a streak that included six consecutive starts.
