Mets 12, Rockies 3: Mets Overcome Shaky Start and Complete Sweep of Rockies

Noah Syndergaard gritted his teeth and punched his glove, watching a solo home run sail over Yoenis Cespedes’s head in center field. Syndergaard allowed another home run five pitches later. It was only the first inning, but he looked vulnerable. A few weeks ago, that sight might have meant defeat was inevitable. The Mets’ offense lacked any firepower whatsoever.

The Mets responded Thursday by scoring in six of their eight innings, clubbing nine extra-base hits. More than 36,000 fans came for an August day game against the lowly Colorado Rockies and watched the Mets cruise to a 12-3 win and a four-game series sweep.
