Mets 12, Marlins 1: Yoenis Cespedes Powers Rout of Marlins as Mets Stand Alone in First

MIAMI — In the top of the fifth inning of the Mets’ 12-1 victory over the Marlins on Monday night at Marlins Park, a chant broke out behind the Mets’ dugout.

“Let’s go, Mets!” it began, softly.

Daniel Murphy was on first base, Curtis Granderson was on second, and Yoenis Cespedes was facing a 1-0 count from Tom Koehler. The Mets were leading, 3-0.

“Let’s go, Mets!” the chant continued, increasing in volume and participation and punctuated by a clap at each word. It was sung mostly by the large contingent of Mets fans sitting behind the visitors’ dugout.
