Meet 22-year-old amateur making British Open run

Paul Dunne, a 22-year-old amateur from Ireland that just finished his senior year at University of Alabama-Birmingham, is putting together a serious run at the British Open.

Players at the top of the leaderboard were swapping positions all during a hectic third round at St. Andrews, but it was still unusual to see an amateur play so well.

He took the outright lead at 11-under on the 10th hole and continued jostling with big names like Jordan Spieth throughout the day. Only three different amateurs have won British Opens — and none since 1930 — but Dunne seems unusually composed, and at the very least he’ll ensure that he’ll have a fantastic chance at breaking that streak.
