Matt Patricia's debut as Lions head coach as bad as it gets

DETROIT -- Lions legend Barry Sanders held a giant key at halftime, put it in what looked like a car starter, turned it on and the public address system made a massive revving sound.

All it did, though, was shut off the Detroit Lions completely.

Just about everything that the Lions tried to do in their 48-17 loss to the New York Jets in the season-opener on Monday night failed. The offense sputtered as Matthew Stafford threw four interceptions. The defense couldn’t stop the run and made rookie Sam Darnold, in his first career NFL game, look more like a 10-year pro than Stafford.
