COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) Angelo Mathews has resigned as Sri Lanka’s cricket captain in all three formats of the game in the wake of the country’s first-ever one-day international series loss against low-ranked Zimbabwe.

Sri Lanka Cricket has named Dinesh Chandimal as the new test captain while Upul Tharanga will be in charge of the team in the shorter formats.

Mathews stepped down two days after a 2-3 loss to Zimbabwe in the one-day series, Sri Lanka’s first ever in six series.

He led the team during a tumultuous period for Sri Lanka’s cricket with the retirement of several star players.
