In a troubling sign for the Mets, Jon Niese had his shortest start of the season as the Miami Marlins knocked him around for five runs on their way to a 9-5 win.
Last Sunday, Niese lasted only four and two-third innings in what was, up to that point, his briefest outing of 2015, a 9-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Against the Marlins, Niese (3-6) was taken out after the fourth inning. In the third, Giancarlo Stanton hit his 14th home run, a solo shot off Niese, and J. T. Realmuto followed with a two-run home run in the fourth, propelling the Marlins ahead by 5-1.
