The Mets gathered in center field dressed in their pearly white pinstriped uniforms for their annual team picture Tuesday afternoon. They took their places, with their hands behind their backs, the young pitchers, the midseason acquisitions and the veterans who had posed for several of these before. This group would be commemorated, at the least, as the team that finally ended the Mets’ streak of six consecutive losing seasons.
They have loftier goals than that, beyond winning the National League East. Manager Terry Collins had stressed during team meetings the importance of securing home-field advantage in the playoffs.
