Yoenis Cespedes dug into the box in the sixth inning facing the type of situation he had thrived in over the previous six weeks: a 3-2 count against a rookie pitcher with a runner on base. Adam Conley, the Miami Marlins’ starter, fired a slider, Cespedes swung — and missed badly.
The crowd groaned, and Cespedes trudged away, kicking the end of his bat.
The Marlins humbled the Mets in several ways Wednesday, winning by 6-0 and clinching the series, two games to one. They knocked around Bartolo Colon and Tyler Clippard, two of the Mets’ most reliable pitchers of late.
