Marlins 12, Yankees 2: Miami Provides 2 Homecomings and a Hammering

MIAMI — For nine long innings, Alex Rodriguez watched from the dugout, helplessly, as his teammates came and went, looking glum. There would be no late-game heroics as a pinch-hitter. The Yankees were well on their way to a 12-2 loss.

The Miami Marlins shelled Nathan Eovaldi for nine hits and eight runs before he could record three outs. When Manager Joe Girardi mercifully went to retrieve him, Eovaldi walked off, his head hung, to a chorus of boos — in a visiting ballpark.

The Yankees had acquired Eovaldi from the Marlins six months ago, and the fans had not forgotten him.
