Manny Pacquiao will undergo surgery this week to correct a right shoulder injury, the fighter’s advisor, Michael Koncz, told USA TODAY Sports on Monday.

ESPN, which was first to report the news, cited Los Angeles orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in reporting that Pacquiao has a “significant tear” that requires surgery and will be out nine to 12 months.

Koncz says the eight-division champion is expected to be out four to six months, but that a lot “depends on his recovery.
