A onetime owner of one of the rooftop clubs overlooking Wrigley Field was sentenced Monday to 18 months in federal prison for hiding more than $1 million in revenue from the Cubs to avoid paying the royalties he owed the MLB team, according to multiple reports.

As a successful businessman and lawyer, R. Marc Hamid, 48, "had no reason to go out and commit these crimes," U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin said (via the Chicago Tribune) in handing down the sentence that, nonetheless, fell far short of the up to eight years that prosecutors recommended.

Hamid also was ordered to pay $392,000 in restitution.
