Lawyers representing the retired players who sued the N.F.L. for hiding the dangers of concussions have asked that the appeals to an approved settlement with the league be consolidated and expedited.
Eleven players or sets of players have asked the Third Circuit Court of Appeals to consider amending parts of the settlement, which provides up to $5 million for players with severe neurological disorders linked to repeated head trauma, as well as medical monitoring for all retired players.
No payments will be made to players until all appeals are exhausted, a process that could take many months.
