Although the 16-car field for the 2015 Nascar Sprint Cup playoff will not be set until September, it isn’t hard to identify the drivers to beat this year. The six-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson and last year’s winner, Kevin Harvick, have been the class of the series to date.
But there is another driver who just might make it a threesome.
“There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be in that discussion,” said Martin Truex Jr., who heads into Sunday’s Cup race at Michigan International Speedway second in the points standings behind Harvick after driving his No. 78 Chevrolet to a victory at Pocono Raceway last weekend.
