The eight-time All-Star point guard, who is in the final season of a four-year, $136 million contract, informed Brooklyn he wishes to be traded ahead of Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET buzzer, league sources confirmed to Yahoo Sports, after Irving and Brooklyn were unable to come to terms on an extension. The Athletic was first to report his request to be traded and that Irving has communicated plans to depart the franchise when he reaches free agency if he is not dealt before the deadline.
