Kyrie Irving Out of N.B.A. Finals With Broken Kneecap, Cavaliers Say

OAKLAND, Calif. — Kyrie Irving has a fractured left kneecap and will have surgery that will end his season, the Cleveland Cavaliers said Friday.

The team said that a magnetic resonance imaging test had revealed the injury and that Irving’s recovery was expected to take three to four months.

Irving limped off the court during overtime of Cleveland’s 108-100 loss to Golden State on Thursday night in Game 1 of the N.B.A. finals. He left the arena on crutches, and Coach David Blatt said he had heard that Irving was still on crutches Friday morning.
