GREENBURGH, N.Y. — The Knicks selected Kristaps Porzingis, a 6-foot-11 forward from Latvia, with the fourth overall pick Thursday in the N.B.A. draft.
Porzingis, 19, who has spent the past three seasons with Cajasol Seville of the Spanish league, is regarded as a player with huge potential but may need time to develop.
The Knicks, who have holes pretty much everywhere on their roster, certainly need size, though, and Porzingis could help in the frontcourt if he adapts to the physical nature of the N.B.A.
The Knicks entered the draft with just five players under contract, including Carmelo Anthony, the franchise cornerstone who has four years remaining on his deal.
