ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Jordan Spieth slapped his left thigh with authority after missing a 3-foot putt and making a sloppy bogey on the par-4 ninth hole in Sunday’s third round of the 144th British Open.
Then he started throwing haymakers.
With four birdies on his inward nine, the reigning Masters and U.S. Open champion shot 6-under-par 66 and is in serious contention to win the Claret Jug and continue his chase toward history. He’ll start the final round one shot out of the lead held by Jason Day, amateur Paul Dunne and Louis Oosthuizen, who won the Open here in 2010.
