In their 8,206th game as a franchise, the San Diego Padres finally joined the no-hitter club, as Joe Musgrove, a right-handed starter acquired during the off-season, thoroughly dominated the Texas Rangers in a 3-0 win on Friday.
Musgrove, 28, was masterful, throwing 112 pitches (77 for strikes) and striking out 10, with the only base runner for Texas being Joey Gallo, who was hit by a pitch with two outs in the fourth inning.
The Padres had been on the hook as the last franchise to throw a no-hitter since the Mets got one on June 1, 2012.
