FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Geno Smith, the Jets’ starting quarterback, will miss the next six to 10 weeks after sustaining a broken jaw when he was punched by a teammate in the locker room Tuesday morning, Coach Todd Bowles said.
The culprit, outside linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali, was released immediately. Bowles would not disclose what prompted the altercation other than to call it “very childish” and something unrelated to football that “sixth-graders could have talked about.”
Bowles said he was unaware of any festering issue between Smith and Enemkpali.
“It’s something we don’t tolerate, it’s something we can’t stand,” Bowles said.
