As if he needed an introduction, Jeff Gordon wasted no time making a hot impression at Martinsville.
Gordon rolled out and promptly did the fastest lap in what is billed as his second final race at the venerable half-mile track.
His speed was soon eclipsed, but it was evident the race's defending champion won't quietly surrender his title. Gordon did 16 laps before returning to his garage for adjustments during Friday's opening practice session.
