Jason Day wins PGA Championship in record fashion

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Finally, Jason Day finished off a major undertaking.

The 27-year-old Aussie rid himself of major scar tissue on Sunday at Whistling Straits by emphatically winning the 97th edition of the PGA Championship. Displaying the thunder he developed Down Under and holding his nerve when the heat of playing in the final group matched the 90-degree, sunlit day along Lake Michigan, Day fired a closing 5-under-par 67 to finish at 20 under and win by three shots over Jordan Spieth.

Day’s win carried some historical weight, too, as he is the first to finish a major championship at 20 under, breaking the record in relation to par that Tiger Woods set in winning the 2000 British Open at 19 under.
