SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Tokyo won the Little League World Series on Sunday, pounding out 22 hits and overcoming an eight-run first-inning deficit to beat Lewisberry, Pa., 18-11.
The teams broke the Little League record of 23 runs in a title game — by the end of the third inning. The old mark had stood since 1947.
Lewisberry’s 10-run first inning was also a record, as was the teams’ hit total (30). And the eight-run gap was the largest deficit overcome in any Little League World Series game.
The Tokyo team — from Kitasuna Little League, which also produced the tournament winner in 2001 and 2012 — gave Japan its 10th title.
